Hello!
I have been playing for more than forty years, and was privileged to learn from Donald F. Lindsay of the Invermark College of Piping. Pipe Major Lindsay was the first full time piper in the U.S.
I play the Great Highland bagpipe, or the big pipes as they’re often called. When I play for an event I wear highland attire, which is appropriate for greeting His Royal Majesty the King of England. My kilt is Fraser, the clan that I am part of as a McKim.
Traditional Scottish and Irish tunes are mainly marches, jigs, slow marches, and reels. I also play piobaireachd, or ceol mor, which are generally old, meditative tunes that could be considered classical. Piobaireachd is the only music written specifically for the Great Highland bagpipe.
The last forty plus years have taught me a lot about my instrument, the music, the meaning, and history of the bagpipe and how to play. I’ve passed that knowledge on by teaching students, individually and in groups.
