The sound of the bagpipes at a funeral or graveside puts to music what can’t be said.
Saying farewell to a loved one is a deeply moving experience. I am usually asked to play Amazing Grace. Other evocative slow airs and marches include Going Home, Land of My Youth, Skye Boat Song, and Leaving St Kilda.
In a church or funeral parlor service, I often play before or during the funeral. At a cemetery, I play as mourners arrive, and usually to conclude the service.
